I Saw the End of Time.

A lot of people and cultures have predicted the end of time. It could be the end of the life giving properties of planet Earth, via some catastrophe or series of catastrophe's. Or it could be the end of human life and the beginning of another kind of life. Or could be some apocalyptic end of the universe where the universe as we know it ceases to exist. No-one knows how far along we are on this time-line. There are three types of time, when we talk about the end of time. The end of our time and the end of the human species, where we have created the conditions of a large catastrophe, by destroying the life supporting mechanisms of the Earth and we are unable to survive in some space craft or by colonising a different planet. That time-line is thin. We have been around for roughly 100,000 years, with only ten thousand years of intelligent life, where we developed culture, agriculture, money, democracy etc. Then there is the time-line of planet Earth of roughly four billion years of existence, and no more than a billion years of life, no matter how simple, followed by evolution of species, dinosaur, mammal, bird etc; its end dictated mainly by the Sun. Then there is the life-cycle of the universe itself, which is thought to be about 13 billion years. Many experts think that we are half way through the life of our star, The Sun. So when I claim to have seen the end of time, what do I mean?

The dream I had was of having a fairly simple and ordinary conversation with someone. I think I was ill in bed at the time and behind the person I was talking to, I saw a vision of the universe, bent by a warping effect which illustrated the operation and effect of time on the universe. The planets and stars and galaxies I could see were curved at the top of the image, downward. The degree of the curve indicated the time line of the universe. The first half of the time-line has a straight line with no curve. Then as it went up the curve became more and more curved at sharper and sharper angles, until it disappeared to nothing.

Cosmologists believe that the universe is expanding and there are two possible outcomes for the universe. It starts with a big bang and either ends with a big crunch; having been pulled back by gravity into a small super-dense star, like a giant black hole and ending the universe. Or there will be a big freeze, where the planets and stars are stretched further and further apart until everything goes cold and freezes.

Also, that at the Big Bang, matter and anti-matter had big fight for supremacy, and in that fight matter won, by a small fraction allowing matter to form into stars, planets and galaxies. But, say the physicists, it only won by a fraction, like for example, 51% of the universe is matter and 49% anti-matter. What if that battle was not over? What if the balance of matter and anti-matter is in fact in flux? What if black holes were the actionable end of that battle and that they can tip the scales in favour of anti-matter over long periods of time? Once anti-matter tips over to take control, then the universe begins to collapse into itself and time (and the universe) is quickly brought to an end.

In my dream I saw the universe collapsing into itself and ending. It could be that the shortening of time, in the curve I saw in the vision, will speed up the end of the universe and that the human time scale of that process, could thousands of years, or millions, but essentially, the time we have left is shorter than the time it takes for the Sun to come to the end of its life; or the universe to either crunch or freeze? It's quite a thought.
